COVID–19: CECRA for small businesses
As you're undoubtedly aware, the federal government has announced a program to assist landlords providing rent relief to their tenants: Canada Emergency Commercial Rent Assistance (CECRA).
This program may be of assistance to landlords offering relief to tenants, and to tenants seeking relief from landlords by providing loans, including forgivable loans to commercial landlords who agree to lower or forgo the rent charged to small businesses for the months of April (retroactive), May and June 2020.
In addition, the government has lifted the requirement of landlords to have a mortgage on the property to qualify.
We would like to offer support to help landlords and tenants navigate the program successfully. We are prepared to help those in the hospitality and tourism industries for our services free of charge. McLeod Law is also actively hosting mediations between landlord and tenants to resolve disputes under a lease, and has developed creative solutions to resolve tenancy disputes.
