Overview: 

Vik is an associate in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group of McLeod Law LLP. Vik’s practice focuses primarily on employment matters, commercial litigation and contract disputes. He has appeared before all levels of court in the Province of Alberta in contested applications, trials and appeals.

Vik has been involved in the following representative matters:

  • Advised a minority shareholder in a valuation dispute for a share sale agreement
  • Acted in a dispute involving an employee compensation claim for an executive sous-chef
  • Counsel to both employers and employees with respect to wrongful competition claims
  • Assisted in advising a North American organization in the development and implementation of a corporate drug and alcohol policy
  • Assisted in advising a senior-level executive in connection with his wrongful dismissal
  • Acted for a client in a successful resolution to a trespass dispute
  • Assisted in representing a condominium corporation in respect of a claim for negligent building construction
  • Prepared and drafted corporate website Terms and Conditions and associated Privacy Policy
  • Prepared and drafted corporate waivers
  • Assisted in representing an international company in respect of a defence to a claim for business interruption and property damage

During law school, Vik volunteered with Pro Bono Students Canada and Pro Bono Law Alberta and competed as a member of the 2012 University of Calgary team at the Canadian Corporate and Securities Law Moot. He also conducted legal research for the Honourable Manmeet Bhullar, MLA.

Vik is an active volunteer with Pro Bono Law Alberta and the Harry Schaefer Mentorship Program at Mount Royal University. He enjoys basketball, swimming, reading and foreign movies.

  • Co-counsel at trial in the successful defence of an employer from a wrongful dismissal action, 2017 ABQB 541
  • Co-counsel at trial in the successful defence of rural purchasers from allegations that the subject sale was invalid on the grounds of unconscionability or undue influence, 2017 ABQB 300
  • Successfully represented the plaintiff on a summary judgment application, 2017 ABPC 94
  • Co-counsel in the successful representation of the respondent in an appeal before the Alberta Court of Appeal concerning an option to purchase and a right of refusal agreement for farmland, 2016 ABCA 134
